“Upon arrival, officers made contact with a victim known to the Commonwealth,” Officer Delaney said. “The victim indicated that they arrived at the residence to have dinner with the defendant, who was later identified as John Baidoo-Smith.”
According to police, John Baidoo-Smith, 55, resides in Shrewsbury, MA.
“The victim and Baidoo-Smith had just recently began seeing each other (second date),” Officer Delaney said.”
The victim said that they were involved in a verbal argument in the bedroom of the home when Baidoo-Smith became extremely violent.

“They stated that John, without lawful authority, locked the bedroom door, secretly confining the victim against their will. Baidoo-Smith then forcibly and intentionally began shaking the victim without their consent,” Officer Delaney said. “Baidoo-Smith then, with the intent to cause fear, advised the victim that he had a firearm and was going to get the gun to shoot the victim if they didn’t have intercourse with him. This was clearly communicated to the victim, and did place the victim in reasonable fear for their physical safety.”
The victim said that after fleeing the bedroom and running downstairs, Baidoo-Smith followed close behind.
“While downstairs, Baidoo-Smith intentionally grabbed the victim by the hair without their consent, and slammed their head against a cement wall,” Officer Delaney said. “Due to the assault, the victim was subsequently transported to the hospital for minor injuries.”
Baidoo-Smith was arrested and charged with the following:
- Kidnapping
- Assault with Dangerous Weapon (Firearm)
- Assault & Battery with Dangerous Weapon (Cement Wall)
- Assault & Battery
- Threat to Commit Crime
Baidoo-Smith was arraigned in Westborough District Court on February 18, 2025. During his arraignment, the Commonwealth filed a motion for pretrial detention based on dangerousness, but Judge John Stapleton denied the motion and released Baidoo-Smith on personal recognizance with the following conditions: that he stay away from and have no contact with the victim, refrain from possessing any firearms or weapons, and not commit any local, state, or federal crimes.
Baidoo-Smith’s next court date is a pretrial hearing scheduled for April 17, 2025.
