SHREWSBURY — On Friday, April 4, 2025, at around 12:59 a.m., Shrewsbury Police Officer Conor Delaney was on routine patrol when he pulled into the parking lot of the CVS at 197 Boston Turnpike.
According to a statement from the department, Officer Delaney spotted a U-Haul truck with the driver’s door open and the engine running. A man was seen slumped over in the driver’s seat.
Officer Delaney approached the vehicle to check on the man and noticed signs of impairment.
While Officer Delaney was investigating, the man suddenly put the vehicle into drive and sped off, nearly striking the officer, according to the Shrewsbury Police Department. Officer Delaney began pursuing the U-Haul northbound onto Harrington Avenue and called for backup. Moments later, the truck—traveling at a high rate of speed—crashed into a rock wall and guardrail at the corner of Old Mill Road and Harrington Avenue.
Officer Delaney ordered the driver to exit the vehicle, but the man refused to comply, became combative, and actively resisted arrest. Additional officers arrived shortly after and were able to subdue him and take him into custody. During an inventory of the vehicle, officers discovered numerous items believed to be stolen, including video game consoles, laptops, tires, a lawnmower, and various new clothing items.
The driver was identified as 59-year-old Edward Alexander of Boston, Massachusetts. A records check revealed that Alexander had four outstanding warrants in Massachusetts and an additional warrant in New Hampshire.
He now faces the following charges:
