Chimney fire spreads to walls of Princeton home, prompting multi-town response

PRINCETON — On Sunday, April 14, 2025, at approximately 12:40 a.m., the Princeton Fire Department responded to a report of a chimney fire at a residence on Hubbardston Road, between Allen Hill/Radford Road and Calamint Hill Road North.

While checking for fire extension, crews discovered that flames had spread into the walls. In response, Chief John Bennett declared a working fire, prompting a mutual aid deployment that brought 11 pieces of apparatus and 32 firefighters from six surrounding towns: Sterling, Holden, Westminster, Oakham, Leominster, and Rutland.

Firefighters gather around a multifamily home in Princeton as smoke rises from the chimney. A Princeton Fire Department ladder truck extends toward the roof, where firefighters work to extinguish the blaze. Snow covers the ground and roof.

Additional companies were called in to provide coverage in case a second call occurred, according to the Princeton Fire Department.

“Due to the quick responses and great teamwork, crews were able to minimize the damage and keep the fire contained to one area of the home,” the department said in a statement.
