Upon arrival, police located a man matching the suspect’s description and attempted to place him into custody. The individual, later identified as Gary Goyette, 30, of 48 Vernon Avenue in Worcester, attempted to flee on foot.

According to police, officers caught up with Goyette and tried to restrain him, but he resisted arrest by physically flailing his body to prevent officers from gaining control of his hands.

“As officers were attempting to place Mr. Goyette in custody after a foot pursuit attempting to evade officers, Mr. Goyette did knowingly attempt to prevent officers from effecting an arrest by physically flailing his body around, not allowing officers to maintain control of his hands, after calls for service regarding the above suspicious activity,” Officer Bourette said.

After placing Goyette in custody, officers searched him and located a Mossy Oak-brand folding knife tucked between his waistband and pants. They also found numerous stolen gift cards and debit cards, a Santander Bank deposit receipt showing a balance of $42,181, and membership cards bearing the names of Shrewsbury residents.

Officer Bourette reported that Goyette had two active straight warrants at the time of his arrest — one out of Worcester District Court for assault and battery dated March 29, 2025, and another from a 2015 Worcester Superior Court case involving the following charges:

  1. Assault to Murder, Armed
  2. Assault and Battery with Dangerous Weapon
  3. Firearm use in Felony
  4. Possess Ammunition without FID Card
  5. Carry Firearm without License
  6. Carry Loaded Firearm without License
  7. Witness/Juror/Police/Court Official, Intimidate

In addition to those existing warrants, Goyette was charged with:

  1. Dangerous Weapon, Carry (pocket knife)
  2. Receiving stolen property over $1,200
  3. Resisting arrest
  4. Trespassing

Goyette was arraigned on April 22, 2025, in Westborough District Court, where Judge Michael Welsh ordered him held on $2,500 cash bail. A mittimus was issued the same day, committing Goyette to custody. His next court appearance is a pretrial hearing scheduled for May 22, 2025.
