Man arrested for assaulting taxi driver and fleeing on stolen bike in Worcester

WORCESTER — A man was arrested Wednesday night after allegedly assaulting a taxi driver and fleeing on a stolen bicycle, according to the Worcester Police Department.

At approximately 8:47 p.m. on May 14, officers were dispatched to Bancroft Street for a report of an assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. They arrived to find a man bleeding from his chin and provided first aid until medical personnel transported him to the hospital. Police said the victim was alert and conscious at the scene.

The cab driver told police he had picked up a male passenger in Westborough and transported him to Worcester. When he asked for the fare, the passenger reportedly attacked him with a sharp object and then fled on foot. The weapon used was not identified in the department’s statement.

Shortly afterward, officers located the suspect on Bluff Street riding a green bicycle, which was determined to have been stolen.

Daniel Burrows, 41, was arrested and charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, larceny, trespassing, and providing false information. Police did not release his city or town of residence.
