Woman arrested for stabbing man in Worcester parking lot held on $2,500 bail

WORCESTER — A 22-year-old Worcester woman accused of stabbing a man in the abdomen during a fight in a public parking lot on Water Street is being held on $2,500 bail following her arraignment this week in Worcester District Court.

According to the Worcester Police Department, officers patrolling the area around 2:00 a.m. on Sept. 13 encountered a large crowd yelling and pointing toward a disturbance. As officers exited their cruiser, they saw a man collapse and a woman, later identified as Makayli Melendez, moving toward him aggressively.

According to police, Makayli Elizabeth Melendez, 22, is a resident of Worcester, MA.

Police say Melendez attempted to flee but was quickly taken into custody. Officers rendered aid to the male victim, who had suffered a stab wound to the left side of his abdomen.

“While officers provided aid to the male, he told them that he had never seen the female before and that she approached him and started attacking him,” the Worcester Police Department said in its statement.

Police found a pocketknife at the scene.

Melendez was arrested and charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, resisting arrest, and disorderly conduct.

At her arraignment Monday in Worcester District Court, Melendez pleaded not guilty to all charges and was ordered held on $2,500 cash bail, according to court records reported by MassLive. She is scheduled to return to court for a pretrial hearing on October 15.
