FITCHBURG — A brush fire broke out along the rail trail in the Water Street area this afternoon, prompting a response from the Fitchburg Fire Department’s Group 3 companies, according to a department statement.
Upon arrival, firefighters found an area of grass burning adjacent to the walking path. Crews quickly extinguished the flames and remained on site to conduct overhaul operations to ensure the fire was fully out.
Engines 4 and 7 stayed at the scene to complete the post-fire inspection and prevent any possible rekindling, the department said.
No injuries or property damage were reported.
