โ€œUpon our arrival, we encountered a single female occupant, later identified as Linda Cook of Worcester, slumped behind the wheel of a gray Toyota Crown bearing Massachusetts registration [# redacted],โ€ Det. Noone said.

According to police, Linda A. Cook, 46, is a resident of Chandler Street in Worcester, MA.

โ€œI opened the unlocked driverโ€™s side door and attempted to rouse her verbally,โ€ Det. Noone said. โ€œAs this was not successful, I touched her left shoulder and shook her gently and asked her if she was okay. She awoke with a jerk and began to converse with me normally. She stated she was just tired and had fallen asleep waiting for a ride share service. I asked her why she was not driving the vehicle she was in and she stated she โ€˜left the keys at Ash Pharmacy on Main Street in Worcester.โ€™ She also advised the vehicle belonged to โ€˜Paulโ€™ (later determined to be Paul [last name redacted] of Worcester, MA OLN [# redacted]). Paul arrived on scene and took responsibility for his vehicle.โ€

Det. Noone said that after he obtained Cookโ€™s name and learned that she did not want an ambulance, he discovered that she had an active warrant for Shoplifting and Trespassing.

โ€œIt was also later determined the charges were related to a Leicester PD [Police Department] case and it was also non-bailable related to a probation violation,โ€ Det. Noone said. โ€œDet McCauley momentarily departed to retrieve marked cruiser L9, which was equipped with a prisoner cage.โ€

Cook was transported to the Leicester Police Department for booking.

โ€œWhile conducting her booking, and before she was searched, Massachusetts State Police were contacted and a trooper from the Brookfield barracks was dispatched to assist with the search,โ€ Det. Noone said. โ€œWhile awaiting the female trooper, the prisoner reached into her pants pocket and two small glassine baggies containing a pinkish colored powder, that Linda stated was fentanyl, fell to the floor. The items were seized and logged as evidence.โ€

Massachusetts State Trooper Amber Costello arrived at the station and conducted the search.

โ€œNo additional narcotics, contraband or other items were located on her person,โ€ Det. Noone said. โ€œLeicester Police Sergeant Craig Guertin authorized the transport of Linda to the Western Massachusetts Regional Female Corrections Center in Chicopee. Officials at the Hampden County Sheriffโ€™s Office (HCSO) were contacted and they agreed to take the prisoner.โ€

After she was booked, Det. Noone transported Cook to the Hampden County Sheriffโ€™s Office facility in Chicopee, located at 701 Center Street.

โ€œCustody was transferred to HCSO [the Hampden County Sheriffโ€™s Office] officials at approximately 5:20 p.m. after a brief intake,โ€ Det. Noone said.

In addition to the warrants, Cook was charged with:

  • Possession of Class A Drug, Subsequent Offense (fentanyl)
  • Heroin, Possess, Subsequent Offense

Cookโ€™s bail was set at $500.

Cook was arraigned in East Brookfield District Court on May 12, 2025. Following her arraignment, she was released on bail.

Her next court date is a pretrial hearing scheduled for June 12, 2025.
