“Dispatch advised responding units the caller told them the unwanted guest was Luis Maldonado, his wife’s brother,” Officer Rice said. “He stated that he was not welcome at the residence and that he was trying to get into the house.”
“Upon arrival, we spoke with a male party in the back of the house, who we later identified as Luis Maldonado,” Officer Vasconcelos said. “Luis’ sister, [name redacted], said that there was nothing going on, she is just outside hanging out with her brother, Luis. Luis then said that there is nothing going on as well. Dispatch then advised me that Luis has an active warrant out of Essex Superior Court.”
According to police, Luis Maldonado, 44, is a resident of Elliott Street in Beverly, MA.

“At this time, I advised Luis that he was being placed under arrest for the warrant,” Officer Vasconcelos said. “Luis then took off running from us and ran into the backyard. Officer Rice, Officer Connors, and I then took off after Luis.”
Officer Vasconcelos drew his taser, activating its laser and flashlight, as Officer Rice tackled Maldonado to the ground.
“I then ran after him and tackled him from behind onto the ground,” Officer Rice said. “I immediately positioned myself on his back and ordered him to give me his hand.”
Officer Rice and Officer Connors said that while on the ground, Maldonado pulled his hands underneath his body and refused to show his hands when instructed by the officers to do so.
“I was able to grab a hold of his hand,” Officer Rice said. “I placed him in a rear wrist lock and maintained control of his arm until Officer Connors was able to place him in handcuffs.”
The officers then picked Maldonado up off his stomach and assisted him to his feet.
“I was trying to ask Luis if he was okay and if he was injured and he was yelling about how he was going to ‘f*ck up’ his sister’s husband,” Officer Rice said. “Luis was then escorted to the cruiser and along the way, Luis tried to pull his body away from us. He was advised to stop resisting.”
Maldonado was eventually placed in the rear of a cruiser and transported to the Leominster Police Department for booking by Officer Connors.
Maldonado was charged with the following, Officer Vasconcelos’ explanation for the charges are provided in quotations:
- Warrant – “Luis had an active warrant out of Essex Superior Court,” Officer Vasconcelos said.
- Resist Arrest – “Luis ran away from us while we were placing him in handcuffs,” Officer Vasconcelos said.
Maldonado’s bail was set at $1,500 cash.
Maldonado was arraigned in Leominster District Court on May 30, 2025.
Following his arraignment, he was released on bail.
Maldonado’s next court date is a pretrial conference scheduled for June 30, 2025.
