SHREWSBURY — A 22-year-old Athol man was arrested early Thursday morning after a police officer found him inside a Shrewsbury business during an apparent burglary in progress.
According to a statement from the Shrewsbury Police Department, at approximately 3:18 a.m. on June 12, 2025, Officer Ashley Ljunggren was on patrol near St. Anne’s Church when she noticed that the front glass door of Undisputed Nutrition, located at 149 Boston Turnpike, had been smashed out.
When Officer Ljunggren responded to the business, she observed a man’s head pop up from behind the counter inside the store. Drawing her firearm, she ordered him to show his hands at which time she saw that he was holding cash, police said.
The man refused to comply with commands, according to police. Officers Elias Salman, Cal Samuel, Steven Piselli, and Lieutenant Adam Cameron arrived moments later.
After a brief struggle, officers took the suspect into custody without further incident. According to police, he was also attempting to steal other items from the store in addition to the cash.
The suspect, identified as Bryce Shufelt, 22, of Athol, was charged with:
- Breaking & Entering Nighttime for a Felony
- Larceny from a Building
- Defacing Property
