Great Wolf Lodge in Fitchburg unveils Otter Cave Waterworks with help from Patriots rookie Will Campbell

FITCHBURG — Great Wolf Lodge New England unveiled its renovated Otter Cave Waterworks — a multi-level water play structure with slides, spray features, and a giant tipping bucket — on Wednesday with a ribbon cutting ceremony and charity water challenge featuring Patriots rookie Will Campbell.

The new attraction includes three slides, climbing nets, water cannons, and an oversized tipping bucket that regularly drenches guests below. It is part of a multi-million-dollar renovation to the Fitchburg resort’s indoor water park.

Campbell participated in a timed challenge to fill a giant water bucket using only the splash features within the play zone. Completion of the task resulted in a $7,500 donation from Great Wolf Lodge to the Boys & Girls Club of Fitchburg, Leominster & Gardner.

“They thought I was the only one that was going to leave here drenched,” Campbell said in an interview afterward. “I got them a little wet too.”

In an interview following the event, News Link Live’s Editor-in-Chief Genevieve DiNatale asked Campbell what no one had warned him about before joining the NFL. “I would definitely say the rookie duties,” he said. “The rookie duties in the O-line room caught me by surprise a little bit, but I am excited about it.”

Despite having signed a multimillion-dollar contract, Campbell told News Link Live he’s holding off on any major purchases right now.

“I’m just saving my money,” he said. “I’m not really worried about buying anything right now.”

The former LSU (Louisiana State University) standout also said he feels prepared for the intensity of the New England sports scene.

“I’m used to, you know, a passionate fan base,” Campbell said. “I’m just excited to be part of a fan base that cares. You know, at LSU it was the same thing, but like I said, I am just excited for the future of the season.”

Looking ahead to his NFL debut, Campbell added: “I’m just super excited to be here, be able to be part of, you know, this franchise, this team. You know, it’s an honor.”

According to Great Wolf Lodge, additional upgrades to the Fitchburg resort — including dining outlets and guest rooms — are expected later this year.
