Man fires gun near Duxbury homes, tosses weapon on Route 3A before arrest

DUXBURY — On Friday, June 27, 2025, at approximately 5:00 p.m., Duxbury police officers responded to Depot Street after receiving a report of a man yelling obscenities and firing a handgun before fleeing in a blue sedan.

According to a statement issued by Duxbury’s Police Chief Michael Carbone, when officers arrived on scene, they located several 9mm casings in the driveway of one of the residences in the area.

“Officers conducted a preliminary search of the area and the adjacent home to check for the suspect or any potential victims,” Chief Carbone said. “Witnesses were able to provide additional information to officers, which allowed them to identify the suspect as 33-year-old Ryan Darville of Duxbury.”

After identifying a suspect, the Duxbury Police Department put out a regional BOLO [Be on the Lookout] alert for Darville and his vehicle.

According to the Duxbury Police Department, while officers secured the shooting scene, motorists on Route 3A reported seeing a duffel bag and a handgun lying in the middle of the busy roadway.

“Officers arriving at that scene secured the high capacity 9mm handgun while they awaited Plymouth County BCI [Bureau of Criminal Investigation] to assist with processing the evidence,” Chief Carbone said. “A short time later, Mr. Darville’s vehicle was spotted back on Depot Street near the original scene, however, upon seeing officers, he again fled the area. Officers quickly caught up to Mr. Darville and conducted a high-risk motor vehicle stop and placed him in custody.”

Darville was charged with the following:

  1. Discharging a Firearm within 500 feet of a Dwelling
  2. Carrying a Firearm without a License
  3. Carrying a Firearm while Intoxicated
  4. Improper Storage of a Firearm
  5. OUI Liquor
  6. Disturbing the Peace

“We are extremely proud of our officers for working swiftly and bravely to end what could have been a tragic incident,” Chief Carbone said. “Despite taking place near a busy shopping area, we are fortunate that there were no injuries and the involved weapon was located.”

Chief Carbone said the motive and intended target(s) of the shooting are still under investigation.
