MIDDLEBOROUGH — A 72-year-old woman was killed Friday morning when her vehicle veered off Route 28 and crashed into a wooded area.
According to a joint statement from Police Chief Robert Ferreira and Fire Chief Owen Thompson, the Middleborough Police and Fire Departments responded to the area of 446 Wareham Street (Route 28) at approximately 8:27 a.m. on July 4 following a report of crash.
First responders arrived on scene to find the aftermath of a single-vehicle crash in which the car had gone off the road and come to rest in a wooded area.
The driver, identified as Susan Sumner of Middleborough, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation by the Middleborough Police Department, with assistance from Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office and the State Police CRASH Investigative Team.
