SPRINGFIELD — On Thursday, July 24, 2025, at around 6:00 a.m., Springfield police arrested 32-year-old Sakawn Straw at a residence on the 0–100 block of Revere Street in connection with a July 11 double shooting.
According to a statement from the Springfield Police Department, at approximately 10:30 p.m. on Friday, July 11, 2025, Springfield police responded to an apartment on the 200 block of Orange Street following a report of an individual suffering from a gunshot wound.
When police arrived on scene, they located two adult males with gunshot wounds inside the apartment.
Both victims were transported to Baystate Medical Center.
One of the victims, 54-year-old Eric Wilson, sustained serious injuries and died from those injuries on Sunday, July 13, 2025. The second victim, whose identity has not been disclosed, sustained injuries that were not life-threatening.
Following a preliminary investigation by the Springfield Police Department’s Homicide Unit, in coordination with Hampden District Attorney Anthony Gulluni’s Murder Unit, Straw was identified as a suspect.
On Wednesday, July 23, detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Straw after submitting an application to the court.
In addition to the arrest warrant, 32-year-old Sakawn Straw was charged with the following:
- Murder
- Discharging a Firearm within 500 Feet of a Building
- Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License
- Carrying a Firearm without a License
- Assault & Battery with a Dangerous Weapon
Straw was scheduled to be arraigned today in Springfield District Court, according to the Springfield Police Department.
The arrest was carried out by the Springfield Police Department’s Homicide Unit, Emergency Services Unit (ESU), and Warrant Apprehension Unit.
