“Upon arrival I met and spoke with [the reporting party] who stated to me that she currently works at Saveway Convenience located at 249 Main Street in Rutland,” Sgt. Friberg said. “[The reporting party] advised me that she had noticed that pills were missing from her prescription bottle that she had recently filled. The prescription was Tramadol 50 mg tablets and 7 – 8 pills were missing. She then had her employer check the store video and found that her coworker was seen on video taking the prescription bottle from her purse and taking pills.”

Sergeant Friberg said that the coworker was identified as Samantha Santiago, 32, of Maple Avenue in Rutland, MA.

“[The reporting party] stated to me that she did not wish to press charges at this time but wanted the theft documented so that she could get the pills replaced from her doctor,” Sgt. Friberg said. Adding, “A short time later [the reporting party] returned to the police station and advised me that she changed her mind and would now like to press charges against Samantha for stealing her pills. I requested that she have her manager make a copy of the video and she stated to me that she would.”

Sergeant Friberg issued a summons for the arrest of Samantha Santiago for the charge of:

  • Larceny under $1,200

At the end of his report, Sgt. Friberg added, “The entire police interaction was documented on police camera. This report is a documentation of events based on my recollection and perspective. I may have observed events that were not captured on camara. The camera may also have captured events that I did not personally observe.”

Santiago’s arraignment was scheduled for May 21, 2025 in East Brookfield District Court.
