ATTLEBORO — The Attleboro Fire Department responded to two serious emergencies just minutes apart this morning—an explosion at a local business and a two-vehicle crash on Washington Street.
According to a statement from the Attleboro Fire Department, at approximately 10:44 a.m., crews responded to Bruce Diamond Corp., an industrial diamond tool manufacturer located at 1231 County Street following reports of an explosion. According to the fire department, a flash explosion occurred during the chemical cleaning of a metal melting machine. The building’s sprinkler system activated automatically, and employees used fire extinguishers to keep the fire contained.
The fire was contained to the area of origin, and one individual was evaluated for injuries at the scene but was not transported to the hospital. Units cleared the scene at 11:18 a.m.
According to the Attleboro Fire Department, while crews were still at Bruce Diamond Corp., a second call came in at 11:16 a.m. for a crash in front of the Triple Play Car Wash on Washington Street. Responding units found two vehicles involved and four occupants, all of whom had self-extricated.
Three people were taken to the hospital—two to Rhode Island Hospital and one to Sturdy Memorial—with all injuries reported as non-life-threatening. The Attleboro Police Department is investigating the cause of the crash.
