ATTLEBORO — On Friday, Jan. 9, 2026, at approximately 9:57 a.m., the Attleboro Fire Department was dispatched to 91 Hope Street Extension following a report of a structure fire.
According to a statement from the Attleboro Fire Department, when crews arrived on scene, they found a 25-foot-by-25-foot detached garage with dark, heavy smoke billowing from the building.

The department said the garage was located about 10 feet from the main residence, which created an immediate exposure concern.
“Crews quickly gained entry and located the fire in the rear of the garage,” the Attleboro Fire Department said in its statement. “Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire within minutes and then conducted overhaul operations to check for and eliminate hot spots.”

Fire crews contained the fire to the contents of the garage, preventing it from spreading to the adjacent home.
“Garage fires are unique in their own way. You are never sure what is stored inside these buildings, and many contain equipment and fuels that can rapidly accelerate fire conditions,” said Attleboro Fire District Chief Michael Maitland. “Thanks to the quick actions of our crews, the fire was confined to the garage, and we were able to prevent it from spreading to the main residence.”
No injuries were reported and crews remained on scene until approximately 11:10 a.m.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Attleboro Fire Investigation Unit.
