BOSTON — A middle school librarian for the Longmeadow Public Schools in Massachusetts was arrested today for allegedly distributing child sexual abuse material (CSAM). During a residential search, investigators found a locked case containing children’s underwear, bedding, a Santa costume, diapers, diaper cream, and other items.
According to a statement from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Massachusetts, Scott McGinley, 55, of Holyoke, MA, was arrested and charged with one count of distribution of child pornography. McGinley is the school librarian for Williams Middle School and Glenbrook Middle School in Longmeadow. He is scheduled to make his initial appearance before U.S. Magistrate Judge Katherine A. Robertson at 3 p.m. today.
“It is alleged that, in July 2025, McGinley distributed CSAM to a group called, ‘Little boyz only,’ on an encrypted messenger application,” the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Massachusetts said in its statement. “When contacted by undercover law enforcement posing as a fellow user on the app, McGinley allegedly disclosed his sexual preference for ‘boys age 2-12’ and ‘especially 4-7.’ It is further alleged that, in the conversations with undercover law enforcement, McGinley stated he had ‘students’ who were ‘11-14 years old’ but, ‘ha[d]n’t touched them sexually,’ and that he sat ‘hot boys strategically so [he could] see under their desks, and close to [him],’ and made graphic sexual statements about the boys.”
On Aug. 8, 2025, investigators searching McGinley’s person and home allegedly seized multiple electronic devices, including two iPhones, an Apple Watch, a tablet, and two laptops. In the basement, they reportedly found a locked Pelican case containing items for children ages five to seven — including children’s clothing, a Santa costume, diapers, diaper cream, and applesauce packets. Inside the case, a toolbox allegedly held boys’ underwear and bedding stuffed inside.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Massachusetts, charging documents state that a forensic examination of McGinley’s phone revealed more than 100 files depicting CSAM, and that further review of his devices is ongoing.
U.S. Attorney Leah B. Foley and Ted E. Docks, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI’s Boston Division, announced the charges today. The FBI’s Nashville Division, along with the Longmeadow and Holyoke Police Departments, provided assistance in the investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Caroline Merck of the Springfield Branch Office is prosecuting the case.
This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide Justice Department initiative launched in May 2006 to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse. The program brings together federal, state, and local resources to investigate, prosecute, and apprehend offenders, as well as identify and rescue victims.
