Shrewsbury man arrested after police find fentanyl, crack, and cash in Grafton Street home

SHREWSBURY โ€” On Thursday, July 3, 2025, officer Michael Cappucci and others with the Shrewsbury Police Department executed a search warrant at the residence located at 678 Grafton Street in Shrewsbury, as well as the target vehicle, a Chevy Cobalt with Massachusetts plates.

โ€œUpon entry of the home, Nicholas Simon was located upstairs in the bathroom,โ€ Officer Cappucci said. โ€œThe door was completely open, officers escorted Simon to the ground and placed him in handcuffs. A search of his person was done and officers located a small red container in his left pocket that contained 0.51 grams of a white rocklike substance, identified through officer training and experience as crack cocaine.โ€

According to police, Nicholas J. Simon, 40, is a resident of Baker Avenue in Shrewsbury, MA.

Simon was then escorted out of the residence, placed in the back of a cruiser and transported to the Shrewsbury Police Department.

โ€œOfficers then saw a large glassine baggie with a purple powdery substance sitting on the dresser in the bedroom, identified through officers training and experience as fentanyl,โ€ Officer Cappucci said. โ€œThis bag of purple fentanyl was weighed at 28.65 grams. On top of the dresser officers located $1,666 cash in a money clip type wallet. A scale, used glass pipe with a burnt residue, identified as a crack pipe, and an uncapped used needle were all located on the dresser as well. In the top left dresser drawer, a multitude of clear glassine baggies were located, which are commonly used in the distribution of illicit drugs.โ€

Also in the room, officers found a black backpack containing 17 pills of four different prescription types, none in their proper containers, all believed to be Class E substances.

โ€œOn the white shelf officers located four clear glassine baggies, two of which contained a purple powdery substance, identified as fentanyl,โ€ Officer Cappucci said. โ€œThe other two clear glassine baggies contained a white rocklike substance, identified as crack cocaine. The purple bags weighed a combined 1.06 grams. The crack cocaine baggies weighed 0.99 grams.โ€

Nicholas Simon was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Conspiracy to Violate Drug Law
  • Fentanyl, Trafficking in More than 10 grams
  • Cocaine, Possess to Distribute
  • Possession Class E drug with Intent to Distribute

Simon was arraigned in Westborough District Court on July 7, 2025. Following his arraignment, Simon was held pending a dangerousness hearing.

During the dangerousness hearing, which was held on July 17, 2025, Simon was found dangerous. A petition to review the dangerousness finding was filed on July 25.

On Aug. 4, Simon was transported to the Washburn House to begin a treatment program, but, under the court order, remained in custody at the St. Clair facility.

On Aug. 5, Simon was released with conditions, including entering and completing the Washburn House program, remaining drug and alcohol-free, submitting to random screens, and reporting within 24 hours of release from Washburn House.
