Two suspects identified in Lancaster attempted carjacking, police say

LANCASTER — Two individuals matching the description of suspects wanted in connection with an attempted carjacking and armed robbery in Lancaster have been identified, according to Police Chief Everett L. Moody.

The Aug. 14 incident occurred just before 1 a.m. on Seven Bridge Road (Route 117) near the Bolton town line. Police said an Uber driver and passenger had stopped to remove a fallen tree limb from the road when two men emerged from the woods, one from each side.

“One suspect was armed with a firearm, while the other entered the vehicle,” Moody said in an earlier statement. The armed suspect reportedly pointed the firearm at the passenger, demanded her phone, and ordered her out of the vehicle, while the unarmed suspect got into the driver’s seat.

Police said the Uber driver forcibly removed the unarmed suspect from the vehicle, located his passenger, and the two fled unharmed before calling 911.

In the Aug. 15 update, Moody credited “a cooperative effort between local and state officials” for identifying the suspects. Their names are being withheld until formal charges are filed and they are arraigned in Clinton District Court.

“We want to reassure everyone that there is no threat to the safety of our residents or the community with this case,” Moody said, adding thanks to “all the departments involved for their dedication and cooperation throughout this investigation.”
