Rhode Island man faces enticement charges after trying to meet Middleborough child over Snapchat

MIDDLEBOROUGH — On Friday, September 5, 2025, a parent contacted Middleborough police to report that their child had been receiving sexually explicit and inappropriate messages from an unidentified man.

According to a statement from Middleborough’s Police Chief Robert Ferreira, the investigation revealed that the male, later identified as Efrain Ixcuna, 28, of Providence, Rhode Island, had initially contacted the child through Snapchat.

“Ixcuna continued communications by text messages and allegedly attempted to deceive the child by falsely claiming he was 16 years old,” Chief Ferreira said. “The Middleborough Detective Unit immediately began an investigation.”

Detectives, with the parents’ consent, took undercover control of the child’s cell phone and continued the conversation with Ixcuna.

“Ixcunawas repeatedly informed that the child was underage,” Chief Ferreira said. “Despite knowing this, he allegedly continued to send sexually explicit messages consistent with grooming behavior, including repeatedly asking for photographs and in-person meetings.”

Undercover detectives arranged to meet Ixcuna on Sunday, Sept. 14, and took him into custody at the agreed-upon location without incident.

A search of Ixcuna’s vehicle uncovered items believed to be gifts for the child, including jewelry and a stuffed animal.

“I’d like to highlight the actions of an observant and vigilant parent,” said Chief Ferreira. “This case should serve as an important reminder for all parents and guardians to maintain a close and vigilant eye on their children’s social media presence.”

Efrain Ixcuna was charged with the following:

  • Enticement of a Child Under 16
  • Attempt to Commit a Crime
  • Reckless Sexual Endangerment of a Child

Ixcunais scheduled to be arraigned on Monday in Wareham District Court.
