In a social media post made at approximately 2:04 p.m. today, the Fall River Police Department said their preliminary investigation revealed the threat to be a hoax call, but they are still investigating:
“At this time, it appears this was a hoax call. However, we want to make it clear that this matter is not closed. We are actively continuing the investigation and will use every forensic resource available to identify the individual(s) responsible,” the department said.
Police thanked students, staff, and the community for their cooperation and understanding during the lockdown, noting that student dismissals are being carried out gradually to ensure safety and asking parents to remain patient during the process.
“We are asking parents that wish to dismiss their children to be patient as we are doing it in a systematic safe manner and ensuring the safety of everyone,” the Fall River Police Department said.
