Victim of Chester Street stabbing in Fitchburg identified

FITCHBURG — The man fatally stabbed during a reported disturbance on Chester Street in Fitchburg early Tuesday morning has been identified as Ronald Perceval, 40, of Fitchburg, according to the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office.

Fitchburg police responded to the scene just before 5:30 a.m. on Sept. 16 for a report of a disturbance involving a knife. Officers found Perceval with multiple stab wounds. He was transported to a hospital with life-threatening injuries and later pronounced dead.

“The preliminary investigation indicates this was not a random act, as the individuals involved were known to each other,” the Fitchburg Police Department said in a statement.

Charles Ednerson, 33, of Brockton, was arrested later that day in Brockton and charged in connection with the stabbing. He was arraigned Wednesday in Fitchburg District Court and pleaded not guilty to charges of armed assault with intent to murder and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.

At his arraignment, Ednerson was ordered held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing scheduled for September 24, 2025.

Officials have not disclosed the nature of the relationship between Ednerson and Perceval or what led to the fatal altercation.
