MILFORD — An 8-year-old student at Woodland Elementary School was seriously injured after being struck by a vehicle Thursday afternoon while attempting to cross the street.
The accident occurred around 4:15 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 18, at the intersection of Congress Street and West Spruce Street, the Milford Daily News reported. The girl, who has not been publicly identified yet, was airlifted to UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester.

According to a joint statement from Milford Public Schools Superintendent Craig Consigli and Woodland Elementary School Principal David McGovern, school officials are in contact with the child’s family, as well as with the Milford Police and Fire Departments.
Principal McGovern has also spoken with the child’s teachers, and the district will have counseling resources available at Woodland Elementary School Friday morning to support students and staff.
No further details about the student’s condition were immediately available.
