MANSFIELD — Emergency crews responded this morning to a serious crash involving a tractor-trailer on I-495 South at the Route 140 off-ramp, according to a social media post by Mansfield Firefighters Local 1820 made shortly before noon.
Mansfield Engine 32 and Rescue 36, along with Foxborough Ladder 26, were dispatched to the scene, where the vehicle had reportedly hydroplaned and struck a guardrail head-on.
The impact resulted in a diesel fuel spill estimated between 75 and 125 gallons, officials said. The driver of the tractor-trailer was transported to a Rhode Island trauma center for further evaluation. The extent of the driver’s injuries has not been disclosed.
Personnel from the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) and the Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) also responded to assist with roadway cleanup and environmental mitigation.
