Commuter rail train strikes vehicle at railroad crossing in Acton

ACTON — On Thursday, Nov. 6, 2025, at approximately 5:30 p.m., Acton police and firefighters responded to the area of 117 Central Street, following a report that a commuter rail train on the Fitchburg Line struck a vehicle at the railroad crossing. 

According to Acton’s Fire Chief Anita Arnum, first responders arrived to find that the driver had exited the vehicle before the train struck it.

After striking the vehicle, the train pushed it about 300 feet down the tracks before coming to a stop.

Acton firefighters evaluated the vehicle’s driver and all 44 passengers on the train, with no injuries reported.

Acton firefighters contained a fuel spill from the struck vehicle and notified the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection.

The MBTA Transit Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
