WORCESTER — On Thursday, Nov. 6, 2025, at approximately 4:27 a.m., Worcester police responded to a Mill Street home after receiving a report of a break-in in progress.
According to a statement from the Worcester Police Department, the reporting party stated that they observed a man breaking in on their security cameras. The reporting party gave police a detailed description of the suspect and what he was wearing.
The Worcester Police Department said that when officers arrived, they saw the suspect, who immediately took off on foot. Police established a perimeter and began searching the area.
At about 6:22 a.m., a Massachusetts State Police trooper spotted a man on Glendale Street who matched the suspect’s description.
The suspect ran from officers again, eventually ending up in a resident’s backyard. With nowhere left to go, he jumped into Patch Pond, the Worcester Police Department said.
A Manny Tube, a flotation device named in honor of Worcester Police Officer Manny Familia, who died in 2021 while trying to rescue a drowning teenager, was deployed into the pond “for the safety of the suspect and the officers,” the Worcester Police Department said in a statement. Officers then jumped into the water and took the juvenile into custody, provided him with a thermal blanket to stay warm, and brought him to a nearby hospital for evaluation.
The juvenile was charged with:
- Unarmed Burglary in Nighttime
- Larceny Under $1,250 (two counts)
- Malicious Destruction of Property (two counts)
- Possession of Burglarious Tools
- Resisting Arrest
According to the Worcester Police Department, the arrest followed two recent break-ins in the nearby Tatnuck Square area. The Worcester Police Department said its detective bureau is investigating whether the juvenile was involved in those incidents as well.
