New York man with suspended license charged with OUI after hit-and-run in Leominster

LEOMINSTER โ€” On Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2025, at around 10:58 p.m., Officers Caulin Salvi and Nicholas Rice of the Leominster Police Department were dispatched to 49 Johnson Street following a report of a hit and run.

โ€œI was advised that the fleeing vehicle, a white pickup truck, had lost a wheel and had headed towards Mechanic Street,โ€ Officer Salvi said. โ€œOfficer Rice and I located the truck at the end of Johnson Street, approximately 2,000 feet away, in front of the stop sign before Mechanic Street.โ€

Officer Salvi reported that the truck, a Dodge, lacked a front right tire and had cosmetic and paint damage on the right front side.

โ€œThere was a Ford Taurus parked behind the truck, with a male party in the passenger seat that stepped out immediately smelling like the odor of alcohol, claiming to โ€˜be the truck,โ€™” Officer Salvi said. โ€œI asked him if he was the driver and he said it was his boss’ truck. The male then repeated his โ€˜I am the truckโ€™ statement. He gave me a New York driverโ€™s license that came back suspended.โ€

According to police, the man was identified by his driverโ€™s license as Tony J. Cordeirolima, 44, of Mount Vernon, New York.

Officer Salvi said that another man at the scene, Orzandirio [last name redacted], identified himself as the driver of the Taurus. โ€œHe is allegedly Tony’s girlfriend’s mother’s boyfriend,โ€ Officer Salvi said. โ€œOrzandirio stated that Tony had called his wife for help and Orzandirio had left to go get him.โ€

Orzandirio said that when he arrived, he found the truck crashed in the same location where Officer Salvi later located it, and that Cordeirolima was removing his work tools from the vehicle.

Officer Salvi said that, in addition to detecting a strong odor of alcohol coming from Cordeirolima, he also approached the Dodge truck and opened the passenger door to inspect a wet substance on the dashboard. Salvi said the substance had a strong scent of alcohol, similar to the odor coming from Cordeirolima.

โ€œI detected the same scent of alcohol even stronger than it was on the male,โ€ Officer Salvi said of the liquid on the dashboard. โ€œThe wet substance on the glove box I had seen smelled similar to both odors as well.โ€

Officer Salvi added that Cordeirolima was slurring his words and pausing โ€œa significant beatโ€ before each word he spoke.

โ€œTony was rocking back and forth while standing as if he was on a boat and kept repositioning his feet without moving from the same spot,โ€ Officer Salvi said.

Cordeirolima told Officer Salvi that he preferred to speak Portuguese, so Officer Salvi requested assistance from Officer Renzo Vasconcelos, who is fluent in the language.

โ€œHowever, when Officer Vasconcelos arrived, Tony became uncooperative and began arguing with officers in both languages, continuing to refuse to take any tests,โ€ Officer Salvi said. โ€œTony refused to take any SFSTs [Standardized Field Sobriety Tests].โ€

Officer Salvi said he inspected Cordeirolima’s eyes and saw that they were glassed over with dilated pupils.

โ€œTony could not keep his eyes focused on my pen light, they kept jerking from side to side,โ€ Officer Salvi said. โ€œOfficer [Noah] DeCesare brought a PBT [preliminary breath test] to the scene and we attempted at least two breath tests before we determined Tony was holding his breath and not blowing, we attempted at least three more tests with further instruction and Tony did not try to blow.โ€

Officer Salvi said he asked Cordeirolima where the truckโ€™s keys were, and Cordeirolima pulled a key from his right pocket, which Officer Salvi then confirmed started the truckโ€™s ignition.

Officer Salvi then placed Cordeirolima under arrest for OUI โ€“ Liquor and Cordeirolima was then transported to the Leominster Police Department where he was booked and refused a breathalyzer.

Tony Cordeirolima was arrested and charged with the following violations/offenses:

  1. OUI โ€“ Liquor
  2. Leaving the scene of property damage
  3. Negligent operation of a motor vehicle
  4. Marked lanes violation
  5. Unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle

Cordeirolima was arraigned in Leominster District Court on Oct. 9, 2025. Following his arraignment, he was released on personal recognizance under the condition that he not drive in Massachusetts without a valid license.

Cordeirolimaโ€™s next court date is a pretrial conference hearing scheduled for Nov. 18, 2025.
