GARDNER — On Friday, Oct. 3, 2025, Officer Elijah Williams of the Gardner Police Department was on patrol when he observed a black Kia 4D on Central Street with Florida plates.

“The vehicle completed an illegal U-turn around the island on Central Street in front of another vehicle, causing them to stop abruptly,” Officer Williams said. “I activated my emergency lights to initiate a traffic stop at the end of Elm Street. I advised the operator, Darlande Theodore, of the reason for the stop, and he told me he did not think it was illegal because he does it in Florida.”
According to police, Darlande Theodore, 53, is a resident of Gardner, MA. Court records indicate he’s a married chef.
“I radioed the information to dispatch, and they advised me that Darlande’s license was suspended out of Florida, and the vehicle’s registration was active; I requested the duty hook,” Officer Williams said. “I had Darlande step out of the vehicle and informed him he was under arrest for driving unlicensed.”
Officer Williams said he handcuffed Theodore, walked him back to his patrol car, and searched him.
“At this time, Officer [Nathan] Golisano arrived on scene,” Officer Williams said. “Officer Golisano completed a department tow inventory form and waited for TJ and Son’s Towing to arrive. I transported Darlande to the police department, where Sergeant [Roger] Cormier completed the booking process, and Darlande was placed in cell 5.”
Darlande Theodore was issued a citation for the following violations/offenses:
- Improper Turn
- Unlicensed Operation of Motor Vehicle
Theodore’s arraignment was scheduled for the morning of Oct. 3, 2025, in Gardner District Court.
