Three-vehicle crash sends car into gas pump, sparks fire in Stoughton

STOUGHTON — On Wednesday, Dec. 17, at about 5:57 a.m., Stoughton police responded to the Shell gas station at 140 Sharon Street, following reports of a multi-vehicle crash, during which one of the vehicles struck a gas pump and burst into flames.

According to a statement from Stoughton Police Chief Donna McNamara, a preliminary investigation found that three vehicles were involved in a crash on Sharon Street, and one vehicle left the roadway, went over a curb, entered the gas station parking lot, struck a gas pump, and caught fire.

“The gas pump’s fire suppression system activated and controlled some of the fire,” Chief McNamara said. “The Stoughton Fire Department then arrived on scene and was able to quickly get the rest of the fire under control.”

Three of the five vehicle occupants involved in the crash were transported to area hospitals with injuries not believed to be serious

“The driver of the vehicle that hit the pump was the lone occupant and was not transported. The second involved vehicle’s driver was transported,” Chief McNamara said. “The third vehicle involved had two passengers in addition to the driver; two of those occupants were transported.”
