Driver killed in rollover crash on Route 20 in Shrewsbury

SHREWSBURY — On Friday, March 6, 2026, at approximately 1:23 a.m., after the Shrewsbury Police Department received a 911 call reporting a motor vehicle crash in the area of 800 Hartford Turnpike (Route 20), the Shrewsbury police and fire departments as well as Worcester EMS responded to the scene.

According to the Shrewsbury Police Department, the first officer who arrived on scene discovered a Ford sedan upside down on its roof, after it had overturned in a crash. The driver of this vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police determined that before emergency personnel arrived, a second vehicle — a Toyota sedan — struck the Ford in the roadway after the crash. The Toyota was not involved in the initial crash, and its driver was not injured, the Shrewsbury Police Department reported.

Hartford Turnpike was closed for several hours while emergency crews and investigators worked at the scene, and traffic was diverted.

Officer Timothy Charland and other members of the Central Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council (CEMLEC) Crash Reconstruction Team responded to the scene to investigate the crash. The Shrewsbury Police Department’s drone unit also assisted with the investigation, and the Northborough Police Department helped manage traffic.

The victim’s identity and additional details are being withheld as the investigation remains ongoing, according to Shrewsbury police.
