Springfield man charged with murder after fatal stabbing in Pittsfield

PITTSFIELD — On Friday, May 29, 2026, at approximately 10:00 p.m., officers with the Pittsfield Police Department responded to a residence on Hall Place following a report of an assault.

According to Pittsfield Police Lieutenant John Soules, when officers arrived on scene, they located a 36-year-old Pittsfield resident suffering from a life-threatening stab wound.

First responders treated the man and transported him to Berkshire Medical Center, where he died from his injuries.

Lieutenant Soules said that, as a result of the ensuing police investigation, which included cooperation from a number of witnesses, a suspect was identified and arrested the following morning.

Zyrus Jaynes, 24, of Springfield, was charged with one count of murder. He is expected to be arraigned in Central Berkshire District Court on Monday, June 1.

Lieutenant Soules said that while a suspect has been arrested, the incident remains under investigation by the Pittsfield Police Department in conjunction with the Berkshire County District Attorney’s Office.
