PITTSFIELD — On Thursday, June 18, 2026, at approximately 8:09 p.m., multiple Pittsfield police officers responded to the intersection of Pleasant Avenue and Tyer Street following a report of a shooting.
According to a statement authored by Lieutenant John Soules and authorized by Chief Marc Maddalena, dispatch was alerted to the incident by both a multiple-round ShotSpotter activation and 911 callers.
When officers arrived on scene, they located two men who had sustained gunshot wounds. Both men were transported to Berkshire Medical Center by emergency medical services personnel.
One victim, a 38-year-old Pittsfield resident, was treated for a non-life-threatening injury and later released.
The second victim, a 29-year-old Pittsfield man, died from his injuries at Berkshire Medical Center despite the efforts of first responders and hospital staff, Lieutenant Soules said.
The incident remains under investigation by the Pittsfield Police Department, the Berkshire County District Attorney’s Office and other assisting agencies.
“At this time, investigators believe that the shooting was a targeted act,” Lieutenant Soules said.
