LAKEVILLE — On Saturday, May 9, 2026, at approximately 12:55 p.m., Lakeville Police Officer John Hutchinson was traveling south on Rhode Island Road near Kenneth Welch Drive when he observed a white Ford van traveling northbound toward his cruiser at a high rate of speed.

“I estimated the vehicles speed to be 55 mph in a posted 35 mph zone,” Officer Hutchinson said. “My mounted radar unit confirmed the vehicle’s speed to be 52 mph.”
Officer Hutchinson said he spun his cruiser around at the entrance of Kenneth Welch Drive and continued north on Rhode Island Road in an attempt to catch up with the vehicle.
“I observed the same vehicle take a right turn onto Captains Way,” Officer Hutchinson said, adding that the vehicle had Massachusetts plates.
“The vehicle then accelerated at a high rate of speed. I activated my emergency blue lights and sirens, and continued after the vehicle,” Officer Hutchinson said.
Officer Hutchinson said he caught up to the vehicle as it was about to take a right turn onto Pantheon Drive.
“The operator continued failing to stop for my emergency blue lights and sirens. The operator began waving his hand out the window,” Officer Hutchinson said. “The vehicle turned right onto Anaconda Drive and subsequently turned left into the front yard of 3 Anaconda Drive.”
Officer Hutchinson noted that there were several safe areas on Captains Way, Pantheon Drive and Anaconda Drive where the operator could have pulled over.
“The distance the vehicle failed to stop was 1,377 feet,” Officer Hutchinson said. “The operator immediately opened the driver’s door and attempted to step out of the vehicle. I exited my cruiser and made contact with the operator, later identified as Anthony Parks.”
According to police, Anthony G. Parks, 53, is a resident of Bay Street in Taunton, MA.
“I subsequently placed Parks in handcuffs, double locked, and advised him he was being placed under arrest. I placed Parks In the rear of 161,” Officer Hutchinson said. “The front seat passenger, who was not wearing a seat belt, was identified as Anne [last name redacted].”
At around this time, Officer Adam Swift and Lieutenant Ryan Maltais arrived on scene to assist.
Officer Hutchinson said a CJIS (the FBI’s Criminal Justice Information Services database) query of Parks’ license and registration revealed that his license status was “revoked” and that the vehicle’s registration had a cancelled status for a gray Volvo sedan. (The vehicle Parks was operating at the time he was pulled over was a Ford E-250 van, according to Officer Hutchinson.)
Officer Hutchinson added that a CJIS query of the VIN showed the registration was revoked and the insurance was canceled.
“Parks advised me that the vehicle is unregistered and uninsured. Parks advised me that he owns the vehicle, but the plates are from a scrap yard,” Officer Hutchinson said.
Officer Hutchinson said, Parks’ passenger, Anne, was released from the scene.
“During the inventory of the vehicle, I located a plastic baggie in the driver’s door containing live ammunition,” Officer Hutchinson said. “It should be noted that Parks does not have an active LTC [license to carry] or FID [card].”
Officer Hutchinson said Mid-Town Towing arrived on scene and took custody of the vehicle after an inventory was completed.
Officer Hutchinson said Parks was brought to the station, where he was booked, photographed, and fingerprinted. Parks was advised of his Miranda rights and declined to speak with Officer Hutchinson.
Officer Hutchinson said the following items were logged into evidence and placed into evidence locker 3 at the station:
- Nine .357 Magnum Rounds
- Two .22 Auto Rounds
- Two .25 Auto Rounds
- One .1 LC 12 Casing
- A plastic baggie with a note, identified as the bag in which the ammunition was found
“A Rockland Trust check that appeared altered was also logged into evidence,” Officer Hutchinson said.
“I will be conducting a follow up investigation and will submit a supplemental report.”
Anthony G. Parks, 53, of Taunton was charged with the following:
- Operate Motor Vehicle with License Suspended/Revoked
- Fail to Stop for Police
- Unregistered Motor Vehicle
- Uninsured Motor Vehicle
- Number Plate Violation to Conceal ID
- Speeding
- Possess Ammunition Without FID Card
Bristol County Sheriff Paul Heroux points out that Massachusetts jails are filled with defendants awaiting trial for gun related charges.
“While Massachusetts gun violence rates have remained fairly stable in recent years, in 2023 Massachusetts had the lowest gun death rate in the country,” Heroux said. “Meanwhile, nationwide, someone is killed almost every 11 minutes with a firearm.”
Parks’ arraignment was scheduled for May 11, 2026, in Wareham District Court.
