Man charged with murder of Haverhill resident fatally shot in Lawrence

LAWRENCE — A 32-year-old man was ordered held without bail after pleading not guilty to murder in connection with the fatal shooting of a Haverhill resident.

According to the Essex County District Attorney’s Office, Edgar Morales-Alvarez was arraigned in Lawrence District Court on Friday, July 31, 2026, for the July 23 shooting death of Domingo Rivera, 44, of Haverhill, on Bay State Road in Lawrence.

Morales-Alvarez pleaded not guilty to murder before Judge Raquel Ruano, who ordered him held without bail and impounded the records in the case.

Morales-Alvarez was also charged under a separate complaint with carrying a firearm without a license, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, and committing a firearm violation with three prior violent crime or drug offense convictions. He pleaded not guilty to those charges as well.

Assistant District Attorney Lindsay Nasson appeared on behalf of the Commonwealth, while attorney Jeffrey Sweeney represented Morales-Alvarez at his arraignment.

Morales-Alvarez is scheduled to return to court on Aug. 31, 2026, for hearings in both cases, according to the Essex County District Attorney’s Office.
