SHREWSBURY — Shrewsbury police said there will be a large police and fire personnel presence on Lake Quinsigamond Monday as the search for a missing man continues.
According to the Shrewsbury Police Department, on Sunday August 9, 2026, at approximately 3:27 p.m., Shrewsbury police responded by both land and aboard the Shrewsbury Police Boat to Lake Quinsigamond after the department received multiple 911 calls reporting that a man was possibly drowning in the water near Sunset Beach.
The Shrewsbury Fire Department and Worcester EMS also responded to the scene.
The Shrewsbury Police Department reported in a social media post Sunday evening that, after initial responders were unable to locate the man, several other agencies joined the search, including Worcester police, the Worcester Fire Department’s District 7 Dive Team, the District 14 Dive Team, Holden firefighters, Massachusetts State Police, and Massachusetts Environmental Police.
Search efforts included crews along the shoreline, surface vessels, divers, underwater drones and aerial drones operated by police departments in Shrewsbury, Berlin, Grafton and Westborough.
As of approximately 8:45 p.m. Sunday, the man had not been located and search efforts remained underway.
On Monday, Shrewsbury police said a large contingent of police and fire personnel would remain on Lake Quinsigamond in the Sunset Beach area as the search continued.
Police asked recreational boaters to avoid the area while search operations are underway.
