
COHASSET — Cohasset police are investigating after a man in his early 70s was found dead on a remote trail in Whitney Woods on Monday, Aug. 17, 2026.
According to the Cohasset Police Department, police and firefighters responded to the park at approximately 10:31 a.m. after a 911 caller reported finding an unresponsive person.
The first officers to arrive hiked approximately 1.5 miles over rugged terrain before locating the man, who had sustained injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Cohasset police deployed the department’s two off-road utility vehicles to transport personnel and equipment into the remote location of the park where the man was located. Police later assisted personnel from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner with removing the man’s body from the wooded area.

A section of Whitney Woods was closed for approximately 3½ hours while investigators worked at the scene.
The Cohasset Police Department said the death does not appear suspicious and there is no threat to the public. The circumstances remain under investigation by Cohasset police detectives and Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to the Norfolk County District Attorney’s Office.
The man’s identity was not released because his next of kin are being notified.
