MAYNARD — Maynard Public Schools has received a $110,000 state grant to strengthen literacy instruction for students from prekindergarten through third grade.

According to Maynard Public Schools Superintendent Brian Haas, the funding comes through the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education’s Partnership for Reading Success-Massachusetts II program, also known as PRISM II.

Maynard Public Schools was among 71 Massachusetts school districts to receive the award.

“The district will use the grant to evaluate, select, purchase, launch, and implement high-quality instructional materials for pre-K through third grade,” Superintendent Haas said.

According to Superintendent Haas, previously collected student data demonstrated the need for additional literacy resources in prekindergarten through third grade.

“The grant will support stronger alignment and communication between early childhood providers and the public schools, helping to build smoother transitions, shared goals, and consistent instructional strategies that address gaps before kindergarten,” Superintendent Haas said.

Through PRISM II, Maynard Public Schools will receive resources and support to coordinate its literacy programs, strengthen teaching practices, and implement consistent, research-based instruction. Superintendent Haas said the funding will help create a more equitable literacy system designed to support the success of every Maynard Public Schools student.

“This grant is an important investment in the literacy of our youngest learners,” Superintendent Haas said. “The PRISM II funding will give our educators the resources, professional learning, and evidence-based materials they need to provide consistent, high-quality literacy instruction from pre-K through third grade.”
