GLOUCESTER — On Saturday, Aug. 29, 2026, at approximately 4:56 a.m., the Gloucester Fire Department responded to the single-family residence located at 107 Gloucester Avenue, following a report of smoke inside the home.
According to Gloucester Fire Chief Eric Smith, when firefighters arrived on scene, they discovered a fire in the basement and immediately began an aggressive transitional attack.
Firefighters quickly knocked down the bulk of the flames before fully extinguishing the basement fire, checking the building for extension and remaining hot spots, and beginning an investigation into its origin and cause.
The Gloucester Fire Department dispatched Engines 1, 2 and 3, Ladder 2, Rescue 3, and several command vehicles to the scene.
Rockport Fire Department Engine 3 provided mutual aid and assisted Gloucester Fire Department Engine 4 with covering the city. Beauport Ambulance provided medical standby, while Rehab 5 supplied hydration and support at the scene.
No injuries were reported.
Although the cause remains under investigation, Chief Smith said the fire appears to have originated in the basement.
“I want to thank our Gloucester firefighters for their quick response and effort,” Chief Smith said. “Their work quickly brought this fire under control and prevented it from causing greater danger and even more extensive damage.”
