SOMERSET — On Thursday, Sept. 3, 2026, at approximately 2:54 p.m., the Somerset Police Department’s dispatch center received several 911 calls reporting a crash involving a car and a school bus on Brayton Point Road between Wilbur Avenue and Butler Street.
According to the Somerset Police Department, when officers arrived on scene, they determined that the car had left its lane of trave before striking the school bus head-on. Minor injuries were reported, but none of the students aboard the bus were injured.
The driver told police that they had fallen asleep at the wheel, and investigators found no indication that alcohol or drugs contributed to the crash.
Somerset Rescue transported the driver to the hospital for treatment.
The Somerset Police Department reported that some students were picked up at the scene by their families. The remaining students were taken back to the middle school aboard another bus at the direction of Superintendent Jeffrey Schoonover, who also responded to the scene.
