SPRINGFIELD – On Tuesday, January 3, 2023, at about 9:18 p.m., Officers Oumar Keita and Jonathan Neris of the Springfield Police Department responded to Falcon Gas on 560 State Street to speak with two individuals loitering outside the station.
After getting the names and other identifying information of the loiterers, Officer Keita went back to the cruiser to conduct a query of their information.
While inside the cruiser, Officer Keita noticed a white 2016 BMW X1 with Massachusetts plates pull into one of the gas pumps from State Street. According to Officer Neris’ Narrative, a random RMV query indicated that the car – which was registered to a man by the name of Dylan Pinto – was reported stolen out of Worcester the day before.
“Officer Keita then observed a male identified as Mr. [Dennis] Maddox exit the driver’s seat of the vehicle and begin to walk towards the entrance of the store, near where I was standing,” wrote Officer Neris in his Narrative. Maddox is a 54-year-old resident of Warriner Street in Springfield.

In the passenger seat of the stolen BMW was a 39-year-old woman.
“Mr. Maddox was swiftly placed into custody, searched and then seated in the rear of our marked cruiser #124,” wrote Officer Neris in his Narrative.
According to Officer Neris, an RMV query indicated that Maddox’s right to operate a motor vehicle in Massachusetts was suspended on April 14, 2022, because he failed to register as a sex offender.
According to the Massachusetts’ Sex Offender Registry Board’s Public Website, Maddox is a Level 3 sex offender. On March 10, 2000, he was convicted of Indecent Assault and Battery on a Child under 14 Years of Age.
Maddox was charged with Receiving a Stolen Motor Vehicle and Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended License.
Maddox was transported to the Springfield Police Department and booked without incident.
He was released on $40 bail.
Maddox was arraigned in Springfield District Court on January 4. Since then, he has had two pretrial hearings, one on Jan. 10 and another on March 9.
