LEOMINSTER – Police are looking for the driver of a van stolen from a local florist that ended up in a ravine near the Leominster Connector last night.
According to Sergeant Thomas Wade of the Leominster Police Department, late last night someone stole a van from Buzz and Thrive Gardens on Nashua Street.
The individual drove the van down Nashua Street toward the Leominster Connector (the exit for I-190 and Route 2), went through an intersection, then a guard rail, and down a ravine.
Sgt. Wade said the accident didn’t take long. (Buzz and Thrive Gardens is a mile away from the Leominster Connector).
The driver fled the scene following the crash.
“We still don’t know who the driver was,” said Sgt. Wade.
At 7:06 a.m., a call came in reporting a van flipped over in the woods near the river, but not in the water, according to Sgt. Wade. The call he believes came in after the accident, which he said took place late last night.
Following the call, Officer Michael Kochanski of the Leominster Police Department and the Leominster Fire Department were on scene. Ricky’s Towing was called in to pull the van out of the ravine with a crane.
No roads were closed to traffic while first responders were on scene.
The scene was cleared by about 9 a.m.
Anyone who has any information regarding this incident is asked to call the Leominster Police Department at (978) 534-7560.
