PRINCETON — The skier who passed away after hitting a tree on Wachusett Mountain Monday has been identified.
According to a statement from the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office, the victim of the skiing accident was John Lapato, 67, of Shrewsbury.
Police say Lapato was on the Oxbow Chute – an expert trail – when he crashed into a tree at about 9:25 a.m. Monday.
He was found unresponsive by a skier who happened to pass him following the crash.
Police are investigating the cause of the accident.
