Maynard woman attacked by husband’s mistress who exposed herself, saying “if you took care of your husband, he wouldn’t need this”

MAYNARD — On Saturday, June 1, 2024, at around 7:11 p.m., Sergeant Brian Petersen of the Maynard Police Department was dispatched to 26 Hayes Street after a woman reported that she was just attacked by her husband’s mistress.

The mistress allegedly fled in a yellow Hyundai after the fight. The Maynard Fire Department also responded to the scene, as the wife reported a cut on her lip from the attack.

When Sgt. Petersen arrived at 26 Hayes Street, Officers Leon Muraguri and Marcos Oliveira, who had arrived earlier, were heading back to their cruisers.

“They advised me that the other party involved just came back towards the residence and they were going to attempt to locate her,” Sgt. Petersen said. “Maynard Fire was on scene at this time and obtained a refusal for medical care from [the wife]. I got out of my cruiser and spoke to the [wife] and her husband [name redacted].”

The wife told Sgt. Petersen that her husband’s mistress, Cydney Barr, showed up at their residence uninvited.

According to police, Cydney E. Barr, 33, is single and unemployed.

The wife added that her husband had ended their affair on Wednesday, and since then, Barr has been driving past their residence. On Friday, the wife said she caught Barr on her home surveillance cameras driving by their residence at 1:45 p.m., she provided the video to police.

“[The wife] said that tonight Cydney pulled just past the residence and pulled up aggressively stopping in front of 24 Hayes Street,” Sgt. Petersen said.

The wife stated that Barr exited her car and walked toward her husband, who was outside. As her husband walked away from Barr, the wife intervened, raising her arms to block Barr from going onto their property any further.

“[The wife] told me she said multiple times ‘stay off my property’ and Cydney continued trying to walk towards [her husband],” Sgt. Petersen said. “[The wife] informed me that Cydney continued trying to go towards [her husband], so she continued to block her by putting her arms out and walking along with Cydney.”

The wife said that as she continued to block Barr with her arms, Barr punched her in the face with a closed fist. The wife then fought back. The two grabbed and punched each other several times until they separated and Barr left in her car.

“I asked [the wife] if any weapons were involved and she informed me no it was just hands,” Sgt. Petersen said. “[The wife] showed me her lip which I observed was red and had two small abrasions on it. I further observed on [the wife’s] left forearm there were several bruises consistent with someone being grabbed forcefully.”

Sgt. Petersen then spoke with the husband, the man who engaged in the affair with Barr.

“[The husband] informed me that when Cydney showed up, she began walking towards him so he walked the other way trying to avoid the confrontation,” Sgt. Petersen said. “[The husband] informed me that [his wife] and Cydney went behind the vehicle in the driveway and then the physical altercation took place. [The husband] informed me he did not witness the whole interaction, but when it became physical, he walked over and told them to stop. [The husband] told me once they separated Cydney left and came back when officers were on scene. [The husband] informed me that Cydney does not normally act in this manner and believes she may have been intoxicated due to her behavior.”

At this time, Officer Muraguri – who spoke with Barr after locating her vehicle at the intersection of Hayes and Grant Street – told Sgt. Petersen her account of what transpired.

Barr told Officer Muraguri that after three years of an on-and-off relationship, her now “ex-boyfriend” suddenly stopped responding to her messages and calls.

“Cydney stated that [he] blocked her and ‘ghosted’ her,” Officer Muraguri said. “Cydney stated she decided to show up at [his] house and speak with him in person. I could detect a mild odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from the vehicle and as she was speaking.”

Barr said that as she pulled up at the residence to speak with her former affair partner, his wife pushed her and took a swing at her, striking her in the face with a closed fist. Barr said she had to defend herself by punching the wife.

“As Cydney spoke the odor of alcoholic beverage got stronger,” Officer Muraguri said. “I asked Cydney to exit the vehicle and stand in front of my cruiser. As Cydney was speaking, I confirmed the odor of the alcohol was in fact coming from her. Cydney confirmed that she had consumed one beer of an alcoholic beverage about an hour prior to our interaction. I asked Cydney if she consented to performing the Standardized Field Sobriety Testing (SFST’s) and she stated, ‘Yes.’ I administered the SFST’s and no signs of intoxication were observed at the time.”

Officer Muraguri noted that Barr had dried blood on her face and a few scratches. He offered Barr medical attention, but she declined.

Sgt. Petersen stated that while documenting the wife’s injuries, the wife’s mother, who lives next door at 24 Hayes Street, walked over. He noted that she “appeared to be uninvolved in the situation.”

Sgt. Petersen asked the wife’s mother what she observed. She said that she was sitting on her stoop in front of her residence at 24 Hayes Street when she saw Barr get out of her car and head toward her son-in-law.

“[The wife’s mother] said next thing she knew Cydney pulled her pants partly down in the front exposing her genital area,” Sgt. Petersen said. “I asked [the wife’s mother] if she was able to see Cydney’s genitals and she informed me yes, she had it right out in the open.”

The wife’s mother added that after exposing her groin area, Barr began pulling up her shirt in an attempt to take her shirt off and exposed her breasts.

“I’ve never seen anything like it, she was completely out of control and was ripping her clothes off,” the wife’s mother told Sgt. Petersen.

The wife’s mother said she witnessed the altercation as well. She said that Barr went after her daughter and began punching her in the face and then, her daughter began fighting back.

After speaking with the wife’s mother, Sgt. Petersen went back to ask the wife about Barr exposing herself.

“[The wife] informed me that Cydney yelled out ‘if you took care of your husband, he wouldn’t need this’ and pulled her pants down in the front exposing her genitals. [The wife] said Cydney then started to say ‘and these’ motioning to her breasts,” Sgt. Petersen said. “[The wife] told me then the physical exchange took place and she thinks during that Cydney pulled her shirt up exposing her breasts. [The wife] informed me she was not positive when Cydney’s breasts were exposed, but does recall them being exposed at one point. [The husband] informed me that he did not see her genitals exposed as he was walking away.”

The wife then showed the officer a clip of what occurred from her home cameras.

“I observed [the husband] walking towards the residence and [the wife] was walking towards the garage of the residence along the road,” Sgt. Petersen said. “In the video it appears [the wife] is trying to block Cydney from walking towards [the husband]. [The wife] and Cydney walked out of view of the camera behind an SUV which was parked in the driveway. [The wife] informed me that is where the physical altercation took place.”

Sgt. Petersen asked the wife if she wanted to obtain a harassment prevention order against Barr, but she declined. However, she requested a no-trespass notice for Barr, which Officer Oliveira later served.

“Upon speaking to all parties, I spoke further with Officer Muraguri and informed him there was probable cause to arrest Cydney for open and Gross Lewdness and Assault & Battery,” Sgt. Petersen said. “Cydney was subsequently placed under arrest by Officer Muraguri, transported back to the station, and was booked by Officer Muraguri and afforded all her rights.”

While conducting an inventory or her belongings during the booking process, Officer Oliveira located a small cylindrical container with two bags of cocaine in it one of Barr’s purse pockets.

  • Assault & Battery
  • Possess Class B Drug (Cocaine)

Barr’s bail was set at $0.00.

She was arraigned in Concord District Court on June 1, 2024.
