HUDSON — Frederick Dusseault, the 70-year-old Stow resident who passed away after he was pulled from Lake Boon Saturday morning, has been identified as the former fire chief of the Hudson Fire Department.
In a statement issued today, Hudson’s Fire Chief Jamie Desautels announced that the department is mourning the loss of former Chief Dusseault and extended heartfelt condolences to his family and friends.

“I extend our deepest and heartfelt condolences from the Hudson Fire Department to the family and loved ones of Chief Dusseault,” Chief Desautels said. “His legacy of service, leadership and unwavering commitment to our community will never be forgotten. Chief Dusseault was a respected leader who dedicated his life to serving others. His passing is a profound loss for all who knew him.”

On Saturday, Aug. 24, 2024, at around 11:30 a.m., Stow’s police and fire departments responded to a call reporting that a man had fallen into Lake Boon. While first responders were en route, they were informed that the man was no longer visible above the water.
Upon arrival, emergency personnel found Dusseault in the water, where a bystander was already assisting him. Police and fire personnel joined the effort to pull Dusseault from the lake and immediately began administering CPR.

Dusseault was then transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead later in the afternoon.
Dusseault began his career with the Hudson Fire Department as a provisional firefighter in 1973 and advanced to the position of chief, serving from 2000 to 2006. In 2022, he received the Department of Fire Services Massachusetts State Firefighter Service Award in recognition of his more than 30 years of dedicated service to the Hudson Fire Department, Chief Desautels said.
