Residents of two-family home on Green Street in Gloucester displaced after closet fire early Sunday morning

GLOUCESTER — Residents of a two-family home on Green Street were displaced early Sunday morning after a fire broke out in a first-floor closet, causing significant smoke damage throughout the property.

Gloucester Fire Department Chief Eric Smith reported that the department responded to a report of smoke inside the two-story, two-family home located at 13 Green Street around 12:10 a.m. on Sunday, August 25.

Upon arrival, firefighters discovered a fire inside a closet on the first floor. Firefighters quickly contained the flames to the closet, which prevented the fire from spreading further into the home.

All occupants managed to evacuate safely before firefighters arrived, and no injuries were reported. However, due to the extent of the smoke damage, all of the residents were displaced and are currently unable to return to their home.
