Grafton man banned from all Walmart stores after shoplifting in Leicester with bag of Percocet intended for sale

LEICESTER โ€”On Friday, February 21, 2025, at 11:37 a.m., Officer Max Jette of the Leicester Police Department responded to a reported shoplifting incident at Walmart, located at 20 Soojians Drive. The suspect had previously been trespassed from the store.

Upon arriving at the scene, Officer Jette met with Walmartโ€™s loss prevention staff, who had the suspect, identified as Daniel Baker, detained in their office.

According to police, Daniel John Baker, 56, is a resident of 100A Upton Street, Apt. 13, Grafton, MA.

โ€œI was advised that Mr. Baker was caught shoplifting and had previously been trespassed from all Walmart properties with notice,โ€ Officer Jette said.

In total, the Loss Prevention staff said Baker had stolen $290.05 in merchandise that day.

โ€œI radioed into dispatch Mr. Bakerโ€™s information,โ€ Officer Jette said. โ€œMr. Baker was placed under arrest for trespassing and shoplifting.โ€

Officer Jette transported Baker to the Leicester Police Department for booking.

โ€œWhile at the station doing an inventory of Mr. Bakerโ€™s property, I observed a small bag of โ€˜round Blueโ€™ pills in a bag that he had in his possession,โ€ Officer Jette said. โ€œMr. Baker said that he is delivering these blue pills to someone that he knows in exchange for money and he identified the pills as โ€˜Perc 30s.โ€™โ€

In their arrest report, police estimated the 49 Percocet pills found in Bakerโ€™s possession to be worth $250.

Baker was charged with the following:

  1. Shoplifting by Asportation
  2. Larceny Under $1,200
  3. Trespassing After Notice
  4. Distribute Class B Drug, Subsequent Offense

Baker was arraigned in East Brookfield District Court on February 21, 2025. Following his arraignment, he was released on $1,000 cash bail under the condition that he abstain from alcohol/drugs, submit to random screens, and stay away from all Walmart stores.   

Bakerโ€™s next court date is a pretrial hearing scheduled for April 24, 2025.
