SPRINGFIELD — A 46-year-old Springfield man has been charged in connection with a fatal hit-and-run crash that killed a pedestrian at the intersection of Parker Street and Verge Street on Thursday, March 27, according to Hampden District Attorney Anthony D. Gulluni.
Carlos Reyes was arraigned Monday in Springfield District Court on a charge of leaving the scene of a motor vehicle collision resulting in death. He is being held on $250,000 bail and is due back in court on April 29 for a bail hearing.
Authorities said the victim, identified as 30-year-old Aronde Odom, was walking his bicycle across the street when he was struck by a vehicle around 5:15 p.m. When Springfield police arrived on scene, they found a vehicle parked near Odom, who had already succumbed to his injuries. A bicycle tire was lodged beneath the driver’s side of the vehicle, and the driver had fled the scene.
Reyes turned himself in at the Springfield Police Department the following day, Friday, March 28. Police also discovered he had an outstanding warrant out of Palmer when he turned himself in.
The incident remains under investigation by the Springfield Police Department Homicide Unit, led by Captain Trent Duda, in collaboration with the Hampden District Attorney’s Office Motor Vehicle Homicide Unit.
