Fire breaks out in Sterling home after light fixture ignites in bathroom

STERLING — A fire broke out in a home on Laurelwood Road Monday afternoon after a light fixture ignited in a bathroom, causing flames to extend into the attic, according to the Sterling Fire Department.

The incident occurred shortly before 3 p.m., just as Sterling crews were returning from two earlier medical emergencies. Engine 5, Ladder 1, and an ambulance responded and found smoke coming from the building and an active fire in the bathroom.

All residents and pets were safely evacuated.

Mutual aid was provided by the Clinton, West Boylston, Leominster, and Wellesley Fire Departments, along with the Sterling Police Department. Engine 6 also responded to assist on scene.

The Lancaster and Holden Fire Departments provided station coverage while crews worked the fire.

No injuries were reported.

The District 8 Fire Investigation Unit is investigating the cause of the fire.
