Shrewsbury man charged with knife assault after forcing open bathroom door, court records show

SHREWSBURY โ€” A Shrewsbury man is facing felony charges after allegedly forcing open a bathroom door with a knife and assaulting a woman who told police she feared him, according to court documents filed in Westborough District Court.

Jonathan A. Pinho, 27, of 19 Raymond Avenue, Apt. A-2, was arrested on April 25, 2025, and arraigned the same day on three charges: assault with a dangerous weapon (a knife), assault and battery on a family or household member, and witness intimidation.

According to the Statement of Facts submitted by Officer Alex Desimone of the Shrewsbury Police Department to the Westborough District Court, the incident began when Pinho knocked on a bathroom door behind which a womanโ€”identified in court documents only as โ€œvictim known to the Commonwealthโ€โ€”was located. When she refused to open the door, saying she was afraid of him, Pinho allegedly banged more aggressively, retrieved a knife from the kitchen, and used it to unlock the door.

The victim told police she tried to hold the door shut out of fear for her safety, but Pinho forced it open and grabbed her by the arms while still holding the knife. She began to scream and managed to push him away. As she attempted to record the encounter and call 911, Pinho allegedly took her phone and threw it aside. She recovered it and successfully contacted emergency services.

Pinho was released on personal recognizance following his arraignment in Westborough District Court, with conditions that he stay away from the victim, have no contact with her, refrain from abuse, and attend anger management classes. During the hearing, the Commonwealth requested that a probation violation be considered in connection with an existing Haverhill District Court case, but the judge denied the motion.

Pinho is next due in court on July 8, 2025, for a pretrial hearing.

Disclaimer: If you are wondering why the incident in this story was from April, thatโ€™s because I had to file FOIA request(s) to get the court documents for the incident. FOIAs are time consuming.
